Troubleshooting Windows Focusrite (Interface) Connections

We seem to have a few Windows users running into issues when connecting to our Clarett 4Pre interfaces, so here are few things you can check to get you up and running as soon as possible.

Firstly, please download and install Focusrite Control for Windows if you haven’t already done so. Most issues you will run into are automatically solved by installing the correct driver.

USB LED not showing?

If the middle LED on your interface is off (as shown above) this indicates an issue with your USB connection, and most likely means you are running into a ‘No Hardware Connected’ screen when using Focusrite Control.
If you have one of the two USBs attached to the interface (one A-C, one C-C) plugged into your laptop and the LED remains off it’s likely you have the wrong end plugged into the back of the interface. Try swapping the one currently connected to the interface with the other available USB-C side.

Definitely got the right cable but the LED still isn’t showing up?

Search for ‘Device Manager’ from your taskbar and scroll through until you reach the drop-down menu for ‘Sound, video and game controllers’.
If you do not see ‘Focusrite Usb Audio’ and you’ve triple-checked your USB cable is connected, then the cable is most likely faulty. Get in touch with our lovely Customer Support team via Live Chat and they should be able to sort you out with a fresh one.

Device Manager is fine but there’s still no LED!

Open up Control Panel from the Windows search bar.
(1) In the Control Panel window, search for ‘local
(2) Under ‘Administrative Tools’ click ‘View local services’ (which may need an admin password)
(3) Find ‘Focusrite Control Server’, click ‘Start the service’ if it’s not already running or ‘Restart the service’ if it is

This should (hopefully!) sort any remaining USB issues.

Lock LED not showing?

This means your connection is fine but there are clock issues, which are fixed in Focusrite Control:

Open up Focusrite Control and click the settings button at the top left. Make sure your ‘Clock Source’ is set to ‘Internal’ and nothing else. You can get a quick look at your clock settings from the taskbar, which should appear exactly as shown below:

Let me know if this has helped (or indeed not helped at all), and if there are any other issues you strange FL users are running into when using Production rooms. The sooner we can all get on with creating, the better!
