DuckTales and other novelty tunes

I have a LOT of love for novelty, nostalgia and theme songs (£1 pound fish the remix?! Now that was a summer). Anyway, check out this article on Ducktales — fab breakdown, and honestly, the lyrics are great.

“The DuckTales theme also happens to be a superb piece of music. It’s not only a high point of an underrated musical form, but an exquisite miniature pop classic in its own right.”

Any other votes for unintentionally brilliant or must-listen novelty songs?

What about this classic…

Mike Batt the writer and producer of this track did an interesting thing at the time.

He waived the flat fee for writing the song and instead secured the rights to write songs under the name ‘The Wombles’, the show went on to become an enormous success and Batt having claimed the rights went on to release 4 gold albums and 4 top ten singles with The Wombles being the most succesful band in 1974.

…so not only were the Wombles as a childrens show very forward thinking in terms of recycling but Batt was also a pioneer in securing rights over fees when it came to TV theme tunes and synchronization rights.

You got to love that bridge though pure Beatles…

We’re so incredibly utterly devious
Making the most of everything
Even bottles and tins
Pick up the pieces and make them into something new
Is what we do
