With Pitchfork announcing WAP as their song of the year (a very high contender in my book) - what were some of your absolutel staples (old or new) that got you through the year?

Here are a few of mine (in no particular order):
Eefje De Visser - De Parade
KeiyaA - Hvnli
Beverly Glenn Copeland - Sunset Village
John Martyn - Small Hours
Mary Lattimore - 'Til a Mermaid Drags You Under
Róisín Murphy - Simulation

Share yours below, I need some new stuff to bring me into the new year!

In no particular order…

Side note - I know having a song by The Killers on my 2020 list pretty much means I won’t be receiving Christmas cards this year, but you can’t deny Dying Breed is a near-perfect slice of bombastic Americana heartland rock (which I’m a sucker for).

I’ve linked to a playlist although I don’t know why you’d subscribe to it as it’s stylistically all over the place - a true reflection of my many moods in 2020.

Julia Jacklin - baby Jesus is nobody’s baby now

The Strokes - Ode To The Mets

Against All Logic - If You Can’t Do It Good, Do It Hard

Militarie Gun - Life in Decline

Fleet Foxes - Sunblind

Kevin Morby - Campfire

Little Simz - one life, might live

Squid - Sludge

SAULT - I Just Want To Dance

Hum - In The Den

Yves Tumor - Romanticist

Jeff Rosenstock - Ohio Tpke

Perfume Genius - Describe

Waxahatchee - Fire

Grimes - Violence (OG mix)

Fontaines D.C. - Sunny

The Killers - Dying Breed

Taylor Swift - Mirrorball

Bleachers - Chinatown

John Martyn is a fantastic callout, One World has definitely been in circulation for me!

I’ve been going back and forth all year between Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal’s Sol Niger Within album and Lou Reed’s Magic and Loss - it’s a pretty dramatic change of pace between them, but it’s pretty interesting to see some really angry, aggressive sentiment portrayed in music in such radically different ways!

Oooh 2020 was SOOOOOO fricking good for music but here’s a few I reckon:

Jodie Nicholson - Move
Phoebe Bridgers - I Know The End
Slowthai - NHS
Ólafur Arnalds - Woven Song
Kelly lee Owens - Jeanette
Jacknife Lee - The Studio (One I think all of the pirate gang will relate to!)
Holy Fuck - Luxe
Taylor Swift - the 1
Fontaines D.C. - A Hero’s Death
Loma - Homing

And…errr…ahem…Mark Mathews - Vampires Whisper & Be Careful What You Wish For
